Toy Collection Drive

Date: October to December 2023

In the spirit of Christmas sharing and with the aim of fostering community solidarity, the School executed Operation Joyful Giving in collaboration with The Toybank Foundation. The mission aimed at uplifting the spirits of underprivileged children by gifting them toys and stationery items.

The success of Operation Joyful Giving is a testament to the generosity and empathy of the Scottish family.

KG Section

Date: 11.12.2023 to 15.12.2023

As a part of the Operation Joyful Giving, the KG section too helped the patients at Bai Jerbai Wadia Hospital, Nowrosjee Wadia Hospital and People’s Mobile Hospital by sending essentials like toothpaste, detergent and soap for their daily needs. A few staff members visited the home to personally handover the care packages and experience the happiness that comes from sharing what you have.

Transforming Memories into Joy – Costume Exchange Fundraiser

Bombay Scottish School is working its way towards a sustainably responsible environment and spreading the joy of giving. To this effect, a costume collection drive was initiated in association with the NGO – Robinhood Foundation, wherein students could donate their single use costumes to an underprivileged school. This will go a long way in reducing waste while recycling good clothing.

Romilla Palliative Care Centre, Bandra

The members of the Interact Club visited the Romilla Palliative Care Center, Bandra, which supports terminally ill patients and their families through their outpatient department services and home-based care. The preparation of the day began when the students began collecting support system material which would help the patients. The students visited the Orphanage on 1st February, 2024 to donate the material and understand the workings of the centre.

Project Prayatna (Visit to Mumbai Port Trust)

18 students of the ISC were the privileged guests of the Customs Department and were taken to the Mumbai Port Trust under Project Prayatna. The theme was 'Customs, Swachhta and Drug Awareness'. The students were given first-hand information about the procedures followed in the clearance of import and export cargo; the various agencies that operate at the port; the concept of 'narco terrorism'; the calculation of duty; and the Swachh Bharat campaign. The students interacted with the Chief Commissioner of Customs and other officers at the end of the day.

Back in Business

Bombay Scottish has a reputation for teaching real world skills through the events we have on campus. One such event is ‘Back in Business’ where teams of students put on their thinking caps and tackle business problems efficiently and cost effectively to vie for the prize. The impressive lineup of judges were Mr. Nikhil Ranka, Senior Vice President & Chief Investment Officer at Nuvama Asset Management, Mr. Zubin Dubhash, the trailblazer and an alumnus of Stanford GSB as well as the founder of Yozuha Consulting and co-founder of Shemaroo and Mr. Vivek Maheshwari, a chartered accountant and currently the Managing Director of the investment banking firm, Jefferies India Ltd.

NRITYA Competition (Grades 9 & 11)

The Annual Nritya Dance competition instituted by the Alumni was held on 15th January, 2024 on the theme of ‘Colours’ at the Veer Savarkar auditorium. The brief given to the Houses was to incorporate the concept as best they could through the visual and performance medium. The winning house was the Green House whose dance drama incorporated all the elements of how colours impact the stages of life.

Vacation Bible

Date: 27.02.2024 to 02.03.2024

"Zoom Into Life" was the theme for the VBS this year. Using the features of Zoom as metaphors for the different aspects of life, children learnt about the word of God through meaningful action songs, engaging skits, activities and games. This helped the children to understand about the love of God and to deepen their faith. The final day programme was held on Saturday 2nd March, 2024. The children showcased their talents by reciting the memory verse, singing action songs, enacting a wonderful skit and performing in a band playing songs praising the Lord. It was truly an enriching and impactful experience for all.

Founders’ Day

Founders’ Day was celebrated on 6th February, 2024. The morning began with a Prayer Service led by Rev. Sumitra. Our distinguished alumnus, Mr. Cyrus Poncha was the Guest of Honour. Presently, he is the Secretary General of Squash Rackets Federation of India. He is a Dronacharya Awardee and was adjudged the Asian Squash Federation Coach of the Year six times. He is the proud mentor to many of the top-level squash players of our school. The vote of thanks by Mrs. Hoofrish Hirji, President of the Alumni Committee was followed by the age-old tradition of friendly matches between students and ex-students.

To our junior most classes - the kindergarten pupils, Founders’ Day was the birthday of our school. They put on their most festive outfits and their sweetest smiles as they wished each other a ‘Happy Birthday’. Grades 1 & 2 started the day with prayer service followed by a talk about the history of the school. An air of celebration and pride filled the simple hearts of our smallest pupils.

Christmas Concert

The Christmas Concert titled ‘Game On’ which was held at the Shanmukhananda Hall in Sion on December 20, 2023, centred around the theme of ‘The Evolution of Sports’. The concert began with a 151 strong choir singing a lovely medley of carols followed by ‘The Nativity’ scene brought alive by our tiny tots from Grades 1 and 2. Then unfolded the saga of man and the games he plays which interspersed the story of man’s evolution with his love for sports. Every class brought out the theme aptly from gladiatorial games to E-games. The day was full of dance and drama and fun. Another highlight of the day was the official launch of the new school website.

Annual Athletic Meet & Republic Day Celebration

Date: 25.01.2024 to 26.01.2024

The Annual Athletic Meet was held on the auspicious occasion of Republic Day where the National Flag was hoisted by the Principal, Mrs. George. The Chief Guest was Commodore Devanshu Rastogi, Chief Staff Officer to Flag Office Commanding Maharashtra Naval Area (FOMA) who in his inspiring speech spoke about the 4 Cs of leadership – Character, Capability, Commitment and Compassion. The PT Drill reflected the spirit of the nation and the Olympics. The march past and the races lived upto their usual exciting standard of competition. The Yellow House (Anne) won the overall Girls Championship while the Green House (Kennedy) won the overall Boys Championship.

Junior Sports Day

The Junior Sports day was a thrilling event that not only showcased the physical prowess of the young students but also fostered teamwork and sportsmanship. The use of colourful props such as cones, ribbons, and hula hoops added a visually stimulating element. The PE Drill offered a dynamic blend of physical activity, creativity, and sensory exploration. From march past, drill, track events to team sports, every student showcased their skills and sportsmanship.

KG Concert - "Dreams Unlimited: A Mesmerizing Journey into the Imagination of Children.”

The enchanting concert titled 'Dreams Unlimited' unfolded a magical tapestry of children's boundless dreams, imagination, and joy. The young performers, adorned in vibrant costumes ranging from party attire to candy-themed outfits and ghostly stars, brought to life a kaleidoscope of emotions on stage.

The emotional pinnacle arrived with the heartwarming graduation song delivered by the senior KG students, leaving parents teary-eyed and moved.

The Easter Extravaganza Fest - Grades 1 & 2

Grades 1 & 2 hosted the Easter Extravaganza bringing together children and teachers for a day of festive fun and celebration. Peter Cottontail, the rabbit mascot added an extra layer of excitement to the festivities. Dressed in his signature attire Peter Cottontail personally visited each classroom, spreading joy and laughter as he interacted with the children, played games, and danced to cheerful tunes. Throughout the day the children immersed themselves in Easter-themed crafts, unleashing their creativity to make colorful Easter eggs, adorable bunny masks, and vibrant spring crafts. In addition to the crafts, the Easter celebration featured a variety of Easter-themed activities including the Bunny Hop Race and an exhilarating Easter egg hunt. Amidst the festivities, the students also had an opportunity to reflect on the true significance of Easter through a storytelling session.

Mini MUN

The Scottish MUN Club recently held its inaugural Mini Model United Nations session, offering seventh graders an engaging platform to delve into global issues.

The students of Grade 7 were coached and mentored by ISC students of MUN Club to ensure an effective MUN experience. Students passionately debated on the following topics:

Read, Write, Rumble – Grade 8

"Read Write Rumble," led by Grade 12 student Anika Joseph and her team, aimed to inspire a passion for literature among Grades 8 students. The event centered on the recommended reading book, ‘The Little Prince.’ Through vibrant discussions and dialogues, students delved into the themes and characters of the book, fostering not only literary comprehension but also creativity in writing and expression.

Scottish Model of United Nations (SMUN) - Grades 8 to 12

The 12th edition of the Scottish Model United Nations had seven different committees. The following discussions were conducted across the different committees.

  • The China-Taiwan conflict.
  • The violation of the rights of indigenous peoples.
  • The use of AI in cyber warfare.
  • The violation of human rights of people in incarceration around the world with special emphasis on The United States.
  • Discussion on State-sponsored extremism, especially in the Middle Eastern region.
  • The Exponential Growth of Transatlantic Crime.

Best performing delegates, along with the Executive Board members and the Secretariat participated in the Night Crisis Committee - the agenda of which was ‘Neo Nazism around the World’. It was filled with unmatched debates punctuated with amusing repartees.

Pre-Primary & Primary Summer Fest

The atmosphere was vibrant and filled with anticipation on the last day of school before the summer break at the Summer Serenade party. The celebration kicked off with the children dancing to foot tapping tunes spreading joy and laughter throughout the school. Next, the students displayed their culinary skills as they prepared their favourite summer snack and fruity mocktails.

GrooveFusion: Unwind & Dance: Grades 5 - 12

GrooveFusion, an electrifying dance fest, set the stage on fire at Bombay Scottish School, Mahim, showcasing the vibrant talents of students. The event was conceptualized and executed by ‘Footloose’ - the student dance club at Bombay Scottish School, Mahim.

The event kicked off to a fantastic start with a ‘groovy’ flash mob by the Organising team followed by impressive performances by the students of Grades 5 to 12, setting the stage abuzz with energy. From Bollywood heroes to Dancing Divas, the performers put great effort into their performances. The DJ breaks were a delight to witness with parents and performers taking over the stage.

POCSO Training for all teaching and office staff

A session on child protection and child safety was conducted by Ms. Edwina Lobo who specializes in this field and works to spread awareness about the same across Mumbai.

The session entailed important information regarding the concept of child safety and the different types of abuse that can be the cause of trauma for a child. Ms. Lobo discussed various signs and symptoms to look out for in case of suspected abuse cases and outlined the teachers’ responsibility in making the learning space safe, comfortable and welcoming for the children.

She also shared the legal aspect of the Protection of Children Against Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012 and highlighted the various important features and legal responsibilities of institutions with regard to the same.

Joy of Giving - Grades 1 & 2

The teachers of Grades 1 and 2 visited the St. Anthony’s Home for the Aged. As a collective effort of our school community, a donation drive was conducted and these offerings were handed over to the home by the teachers. Through simple acts of kindness such as playing a game of housie, sharing stories, singing songs, and even dancing, the teachers were able to brighten the lives of the elderly residents and create cherished memories for all.

Student Exchange Program

25.05.2024 - 02.06.2024

The Student Exchange Programme between Bombay Scottish School, Mahim, and Rijnlands Lyceum Oegstgeest provided an unforgettable cultural immersion. Participants stayed for a week with Dutch families in Leiden, forming strong connections and gaining deep insights into Dutch life. Highlights included visits to the Mauritius, Amsterdam, Leiden, and The Hague, an overnight hostel stay, a tour of the water dunes, and a picturesque boat ride. This exchange was as much about exploring new places as it was about forging lasting friendships and an exchange of cultural experiences.

Grade 11 Bootcamp at ATLAS SkillTech University

The Boot Camp at Atlas SkillTech University was organized for Grade 11 students to help students explore various career options. They received an overview of future careers, followed by workshops on Technology, Design, Management, and Artificial Intelligence. These workshops were led by experts in Business, entrepreneurship, Design innovation and Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning

Mission Week (Grades 1 to 8)

Lead to Serve Trust conducted value-based sessions for students in Grades 1 to 8, focusing on essential morals and life skills, fostering faithfulness, honesty, and gratitude. During Mission Week, Grades 1 to 4 students enjoyed action songs and short skits by the Team, each teaching important values through engaging videos. Grades 5 to 8 focused on life’s journey with the theme "Let's Run" from 1 Corinthians, highlighting perseverance and faith through stories like Wilma Rudolph and Judas's betrayal of Jesus. The sessions also included interactive games, action songs, and Bible stories.

Annual Prize Day

The Annual Prize Day was held on 4th July 2024. Dr. Indu Shahani, the Founding President and Chancellor of ATLAS SkillTech University, was the Guest of Honour. Mr. V. Runganadhan, the Chairman of the Bombay Scottish Orphanage Society, congratulated the achievers and appreciated the efforts of the staff and students in his address. Mr. R.K. Singh, Ms. A. Uppal and Ms. A. Pandey were presented with a silver plaque for their 20 years of dedicated service to the institution. It was a proud day for the Scottish Family as we had two country toppers in the ICSE boards this year, for the second year running. The results of both the ISC and ICSE have been a testament to the hard work and perseverance of everyone involved. The felicitation ceremony which began with the talented school choir singing Glorious and Siyahamba was taken forward by the choral piece, ‘The Paradox of Our Time’, and rounded off by the energetic performance of the Nritya winners - the Green and Red House.

Grade 10 & 12 Trip to Igatpuri

Date: 08.07.2024 to 11.07.2024

Despite the inclement weather, Grades 10 & 12 students embarked on an educational trip to Igatpuri. The first session was held at Quadrant 73 amidst lush greenery, where students participated in activities such as archery, raft building, nature trails, trekking, and stationary football. After their time at Quadrant 73, the students proceeded to Manas Resort. On the second day, they visited the Artillery Museum in Deolali, which featured an impressive collection of vintage and modern weapons, including army tanks and aircraft.

Frank Anthony Memorial All India Inter-School Debate Competition

Bombay Scottish School, Mahim hosted the Preliminary round for Category (Grades 11 & 12) of the Frank Anthony Memorial All India Inter-School Debate. It was a battle of wits as twelve schools from across the city debated on the topic: ‘The Search for the New World Spells Doom for the World we Live in.’ Hiranandani Foundation School, Thane won Best Team while Smt. Sulochanadevi Singhania School won the Runners up. Meanwhile our very own school team consisting of Aarav Bardhan [12C] and Ishmit Kaur [12B] won all three prizes in their pool - Best Speaker, Best Runner up Speaker as well as Best Team.

Investiture Ceremony

A formal Investiture Ceremony to officially appoint the Student Council for the 2024-2025 academic year. The ceremony was attended by a distinguished audience of parents, teachers, and students from Grades 10 to 12. The proceedings commenced with the processional march of the Student Council, led by our Principal, Ms. Sunita George. In her address, Ms. George underscored the critical values of leadership, responsibility, and service. This was followed by the formal presentation of the school and house flags, along with the council badges, to the incoming members. The ceremony concluded with a formal vote of thanks.
